vSphere vCenter Server Check New Notifications Queued

If you happen to see a long list of queued items named "Check new notifications" initiated by "VMware vCenter Update Manager Check Notification" and wonder how to clear them out, there is an easy fix.

  • Login to your vCenter server via RDP or a KVM console.

  • Open your services console (type services.msc from a command prompt, the run box or the search bar in Server 2008 R2)

  • Scroll down to the service labeled "VMware vCenter Update Manager Service"

  • Restart the service

That's it! You should be good to go. You can either cancel all of the queued jobs before you do the above, or just let them error out and fall off after you do the above. Either way it achieves the same outcome.

  2. Once you follow the instructions in this post, it should automatically clear. If not, rebooting the vCenter server should clear everything out.
